Mr. Robert J. Vickers
The Robert J. Vickers Foundation
P. O. Box 1225
Warrensburg, MO 64093

Dear Mr. Vickers:

Greetings! [The introduction paragraph is purely to connect. . . Either 1) first- or second-generational connections/relationships, 2) geographic connections, and/or 3) field of interest connections AND/OR relationships.]

Hubert H. Humphrey spoke of social ills and the character of people:
"The true measure of society is in how it cares for those who cannot care for themselves.
Those in the dawn of life–the children. Those in the twilight of life–the elderly.
And those in the shadows of life–the sick, the needy, and the handicapped."

Many people in Southern California find it hard to help themselves without a little extra help from someone who cares. Too many of them are falling through the cracks. Sometimes, they simply need a kind word and a few bucks–the difference between life and death. Often, the difficulty of meeting the needs of people lies solely in accessibility of information and service-delivery systems.

Although we have serving the community for more than 25 years, I Care About Others Foundation was established in 1999 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency and is a strong community advocate for the people who cannot represent themselves including the homeless, poor and needy, children and youth, former addicts, abused and oppressed, and even assisting people who desire to move from dependency to self-sufficiency. Working with more than 500 private businesses, educators, private and public agencies, and caring individuals to improve the quality of life for all citizens in our communities. Through true partnership efforts, we strive to improve the quality of life for all people, to eliminate gaps in service provision, mobilize resources and combine dollars to better help families, align agencies, and forge alliances so that all work better together.

That is where I Care About Others Foundation comes in. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to meeting the needs of the community and individuals, helping people to lead more comfortable, secure, and independent lives. We empower people to help themselves by providing them with a wide array of programs such as senior care homes; drug and alcohol rehabilitation; free medical and dental care; legal and financial services; emotional and social rehabilitation; employment placement and opportunity; environmental and travel related services; production and distribution of Christian music; and college and sports scholarships.

One of these programs that we are eager to tell you about is in conjunction with First Baptist Church of Warrensburg. When people are down on their luck, the first person they often turn to is the Lord. Over the years, many people have come to First Baptist Church–Warrensburg for help because they have lost everything–their families, jobs and faith–and need help to get back on their feet. These are people who, through various circumstances, now have next to nothing.

In response, I Care About Others bought two houses in San Ramon, California to provide them with a safe, comfortable place to stay. These two homes originally housed eight women and four men, separately. Of course, they filled up quickly and having one house for eight women simply wouldn’t due. We responded again by buying another house, then another–we now own and operate several houses in San Ramon, which provide for men and women desiring to get back on their feet and become productive members of society–just need a little help. We provide them with the basic necessities, such as a roof over their heads, food, spiritual guidance, encouragement, simple assistance in basic areas, and transportation to and from their daily activities.

This is where Enterprise Rent-A-Car can help. We offer these individuals transportation for their day to day activities: medical and dental appointments; grocery shopping; individual counseling; legal and financial appointments; court appointments; Christian retreats, and any other place they may need to go. Right now, the only transportation that we have is a 15- passenger van that is, unfortunately, on its last leg. We also have one mini-van, which is inadequate for our needs. As the largest car rental company in North America, Enterprise Rent-A-Car can help us fulfill our mission to help these needy men and women with basic transportation needs to live normal, everyday lives.

Our program is already in place, and because of the generosity of individuals and companies like yours, we are already helping to make people’s lives better by meeting their spiritual, basic, and transportation needs. But we need more help to make our program become all it can be. You can help by reviewing the enclosed proposal and supporting our work with a financial contribution. I am respectfully submitting the enclosed proposal for you to consider a donation of $100,000 to help us help many Californians to get back on their feet. If you need additional information, please feel free to call me at (660) 747-6390.

Please accept my sincere "thanks" for your help and your willingness to support us in our mission. I hope that you share our excitement for this plan, which will have a significant impact on the men and women who need our help, right now and in the future. I am looking forward to expanding our affiliation with Enterprise Rent-A-Car and an even longer-term partnership.

Respectfully submitted,

Ellen Louise Deffenbaugh, Founder and President

I Care About Others Foundation
Proposal

The Problem:
Our foundation is committed to helping people around the area who need a support network to lead more comfortable, secure, and independent lives. Since 1992, Ellen Louise Deffenbaugh has ministered to numerous individuals so they can grow to their full potential in Christ. Now, I Care About Others, the foundation he helped create, is reaching out to even more people to lend a helping hand to those who need it the most.

Just some of the people who need our help are 17 men and women who, through various circumstances, now have next to nothing. They came to us for help, and in response, I Care About Others bought three houses in San Ramon, California, where they can live in comfort and security at no cost to them, until they get back on their feet. We also offer meals, transportation, and spiritual guidance to help them get their lives back on track. Currently, we are housing ten women and seven men, and we look forward to expanding the program as more people ask for our help.

Unfortunately, our transportation resources have exceeded our needs. We currently have one 15-passenger transport van, which is on its last legs. We also have one mini-van, which is insufficient for the needs of 17 people. To help these individuals to the fullest extent, we require more transport vehicles.

The Solution:
In order to help the men and women in our program, Meet The Need requests five 15-passenger transport vans. Meet The Need already has the program in place to help these disadvantaged men and women. However, the requirements of the community have already outgrown our fledgling foundation. As you can see, we are needed to provide essential services to these deserving individuals, and Enterprise Rent-A-Car can play a vital role.

By contributing towards the purchase of vehicles to I Care About Others, your company would not only be helping the men and women currently enrolled in our program, but many other individuals who will undoubtedly come to us in times of trouble. People, who had nothing, will now have something to be able to live their lives comfortably with dignity and security, and to prepare themselves to live independently. Because of your generosity, we know that you share our enthusiasm for helping people. And as North America's largest car rental company, we also recognize that you probably know the value of having a little help along the way. We would love to have Enterprise join us in our mission?

Our Plan:
I Care About Others Foundation is currently involved in many community projects to help people and increase our visibility. In addition to sponsoring such events as Christian Music Night at the San Ramon Colliseum downtown, we have put together a bi-monthly fundraiser, the "Artful Askers Workshop. Through this workshop, Bob Vickers has coached, consulted, and instructed over 6,400 Christian organizations in accessing funds to build The Kingdom. He has raised millions of dollars for non-profits during the last eight years. Helping nonprofits around us to be better stewards of their relationships and learning to build appropriate relationships with funders of all types–is important to us.

Our Vision:
To meet the needs of the community and individuals by helping people to lead more comfortable, secure and independent lives. Ellen Louise Deffenbaugh Ministries is empowering families by providing them with personalized solutions and support in the daily process of living. Programs include:
• Senior Care Homes                       • Employment Placement & Opportunity
• Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation         • Environmental & Travel Related Services
• Free Medical & Dental Care           • Production, Distribution of Christian Music
• Legal & Financial Services             • College Scholarships
• Emotional & Social Rehabilitation   • Sports Sponsorships
