Resume Help and Samples

Everyone needs a good resume BUT resumes have changed a lot the past 7 or 8 years (12 sample resumes at bottom of this page!).

Whether you are looking for a job, submitting a grant proposal (including a resume in the attachments), or happy where you are--EVERYONE needs to have a good resume prepared and ready for submission. . . You never know when God may open an opportunity for you so BE READY! Two-thirds of the effectiveness of a resume is content but the remaining one-third of the effectiveness is format. The key goal is to maximize content AND maximize format at the same time to accomplish the ultimate effectiveness.

Hubert H. Humphrey spoke of social ills and the character of people: "The true measure of society is in how it cares for those who cannot care for themselves: Those in the dawn of life–the children. Those in the twilight of life–the elderly. And those in the shadows of life–the sick, the needy, and the handicapped."

Many people live in the shadows of life and are falling through the cracks in our society. Most of them don’t know what they don’t know–and they don’t know how to get help–much less, hope. Often, the difficulty of meeting needs lies solely in information and service--delivery systems that are over-crowded and not working by design. Community Action Centers, churches, community groups, state- and federal-programs, and others mean well BUT are not meeting the needs of people. Far too long, most of us have turned our heads and chosen not to step in because we think we simply cannot do everything. That’s true. No-one can do everything–But everyone can do something!

Whether helping adult, psycho-social patients learn daily living skills OR helping junior- and senior-high youth to learn healthy alternative decision-making skills OR helping pastors and ministry leaders learn to access money through developing Biblical relationships with funders OR writing books and training manuals on marriage, family, and relationships, I have sought to help others. Short one drop of blood, I (like you) am TOTALLY UNWORTHY and unable to do anything on my own. Because of the drop of blood, grace abounds. For more than 20 years, my desire and life effort has been to help others to help themselves. I call it, "serving the servants." People need help, empowerment, and practical assistance in order to help others. Sometimes, servants help others without any support for themselves. That is where I have stepped in to serve them. However, during the past 10 years, I have noticed one of the biggest problems is that servants, pastors, and ministry-leaders not only need the help, empowerment, and practical assistance themselves in order to help others, BUT they also need constant reminders of the HOPE that is ONLY found in a relationship with Jesus Christ. And His hope is all that can help! That’s why I have developed this manual of SAMPLE resumes.

Before starting to work on your own resume OR before starting to help someone else with a resume, do something meaningful–don’t over analyze it, just do it. . . Go to Wal Mart and buy a pair of knee pads, take a permanent marker and write, "I can’t. You can’t. But He Can! Phil 4:13 and Phil 4:19" on them and put them to work. Ask God to help you. Then, stay on your knees! Don’t seek His will–seek Him. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever–we must allow Him to change our hearts so that we can join Him where He wants us to! And He will NEVER change! Remember, there is no human need that lacks divine provision! We must stay on our knees seeking Him and allow Him to change our heart and direct us. If you are unemployed, seek Him first–then put feet on your prayers, do a good resume, and network yourself into where He wants you to be. But seek Him first. If you are underemployed, seek Him first–then put feet on your prayers, do a good resume, and network yourself into where He wants you to be. But seek Him first. If you are in a secular job but want to be in full-time ministry, seek Him first–then put feet on your prayers, do a good resume, and network yourself into where He wants you to be. But seek Him first. If you are coming out of prison, seek Him first–then put feet on your prayers, do a good resume, and network yourself into where He wants you to be. But seek Him first. If you between jobs, laid-off, homemaker-returning-to-the-workplace, ending welfare, trying to get out of homelessness, OR ANYTHING ELSE–seek Him first–then put feet on your prayers, do a good resume, and network yourself where He wants you to be. But seek Him first.

And remember my favorite portion of the greatest commandment, ". . . to love your neighbor as yourself." Do you know someone who needs help, empowerment, practical help, encouragement, OR hope that can only be found in Jesus? Are you willing to answer the highest calling? I hope so. You may be the only Jesus that person sees.
